(October 3, 1997) HOGS: Cash markets were steady today on a fairly good run of hogs. Producers are using the excellent weather to harvest. The newest 6- to 10-day weather outlook suggest more of the same type of weather is on the way. Pork product has shown life. Futures traders mixed short covering prompted a bounce in the cut outs today suggesting a cash as well as futures bottom may be near. Bull spreads are working which also provides a sign this market may have found a near-term bottom. A close above 70.42 in the October or 65.85 in the December changes the attitude to friendly.
