AUGUST 1997

Personal income increased $39.5 billion, or 0.6 percent, and disposable personal income (DPI) increased $31.9 billion, or 0.5 percent, in August, according to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $16.4 billion, or 0.3 percent. In July, personal income increased $16.4 billion, or 0.2 percent, DPI increased $13.5 billion, or 0.2 percent, and PCE increased $52.4 billion, or 1.0 percent, based on revised estimates.
