(September 26, 1997) HOGS: The USDA Hogs and Pigs report is considered neutral as the numbers were very close to the trade averages. The state by state breakdown showed a sharp increase in kept for breeding category in Iowa and Minnesota. The profitability of raising hogs and the excellent corn crop in those areas had producers increasing their herd size this year. October is national pork month and should see an increase in pork featuring and hopefully demand. Futures closed down 0.40 in the October and down 0.65 in the December for the week. Technical support held this week and crosses at 68.80 in the October contract. The 65.00 level should provide some support in the December contract.
