(October 20, 1997) METALS: Gold had another flash in the pan rally since our last letter. It was partly news related. India liberalized it's import policies and this caused a sharp run for a day or two, but as has so often been the case over the years, gold makes very sharp surges then goes back to sleep. Some day a rally will take hold, but with inflation very low, one of the props for gold is missing. Silver, on the other hand has been acting much better.
