(October 20, 1997) METALS: GOLD–Still waiting for a new signal and came close last night to a sell. Some traders expressed surprise that gold fell today while petroleum prices firmed, when usually the opposite occurs. Floor sources said gold is feeling opposing effects from the bullishness in the palladium pit and bearishness in silver.
