(August 8, 1997) HOGS: The call for today was for steady to a little better on ideas that there would be better cash prices on Monday. Then turned lower as weak product prices and slow domestic demand put pressure on the market. Packers did not want to raise their bids because retailers cannot move enough product even at lower prices. Today's action erased yesterday's gain with the fundamentals not changing. Apparently the traders did not think yesterday's gains should be maintained over the weekend.
