(December 14, 1997) METALS: It was another ugly week for the metal complex with gold resting on a 13-year low, palladium on a two-month low and platinum pushing down against its lowest level since February of 1996. Even copper ended the week in poor fashion with nearby futures perilously close to a four year low.

The strong link in the metal complex is silver. While most other metals were doing poorly, silver managed to end the week 45 cents an ounce higher. Yes, higher. That means that silver, most tropical markets and U.S. Treasury bonds were the best performing markets of this past week. And they say that, “politics makes for strange bedfellows.”
