(December 16, 1997) CURRENCIES: The D-mark is plagued by unemployment in Germany. The only help would be a raise of interest rates. This is hard to do for a country with 11- 12% unemployment. Look for lower prices in the coming weeks. The Swiss is hanging on by a thread. Strong technicals appear to be overriding the weak fundamentals for now. Yen and mark are a better short. Recent poor economic numbers (low Gross Domestic Product) has hurt the pound.
