THE WINDY CITY TRADER

P.O. Box 1673, Chicago, Illinois

(November 11, 1997) CATTLE: Live cattle continue to trade a narrow range. Some large traders have been trying to prop this market up but are fighting a losing battle. Weak demand is keeping cash prices from picking up and we are entering a seasonally slack time of year. Over the next 1½ months, first turkeys, then hams will see the most action. A drop through 6640 should be the catalyst for a quick drop in December futures. Friday's cattle on feed needs to be bullish or this market could collapse. Huge slaughters have hindered the hog market. With exports looking sparse, the only thing that could help here is a strong ham season.
