314-955-3050(March 23, 2000) FEEDER CATTLE: Recent rains have dampened the bullishness of grain traders anticipating a spring-summer drought. The resulting slide in corn, wheat and soybean futures relieved pressure on the feeder contracts. In fact, the latest futures gains have pushed the spring contracts to premiums over cash for the first time in several weeks. On the other hand, the feeder market is also responding quickly to changes in the cash market for fed cattle. At the moment the firm live cattle market is providing support for feeders. But the anticipated spring slide in the cattle market, along with rising grain prices, should put feeder futures back on their downward seasonal track. We are seeking opportunities to sell May feeder cattle.
