800-443-2360(March 19, 2002) SOYBEANS: Bean products and corn look to continue this current slide lower. China is threatening to slap a tariff on our beans and meal entering the country in retaliation for our tariffs on steel products. Europe is also said to be considering the same. That aside, beans are overdone short term anyway. The USDA planting intention numbers are set for release on March 28 and thoughts are that the reduction in this year's crop will be minimal. South America's crop is coming along better than expected so the demand was keeping beans alive here of late. Now that demand is threatened, look for a drop this week. May beans should reach at least $4.55 and possibly $4.44 if they begin to free fall. May meal looks to test 152 and possibly 147 if that level is taken out.
