(March 1, 2002) SUGAR: May sugar gained 28 points to 597c per pound on fund and spec buying. Talk of tight supplies of Thai sugar for the April/May shipment prompted shortcovering and new commercial buying. A slight recovering in the Brazilian real against the U.S. currency also was noted as favorable to prices in the U.S. We are however, on the sidelines in sugar as well although a quick move to the mid 6c level is possible on follow through buying.
