U.S. COLD STORAGE STOCKS

(December 20, 2000) Frozen food stocks in refrigerated warehouses on November 30, 2000, were greater than year earlier levels for red meat, orange juice, potatoes and fruit. Cooler stocks of pecans and apples were also higher than a year earlier.

Butter stocks were 53 percent below October 2000 and 10 percent below a year ago.

Total red meat supplies in freezers were 1 percent above October 2000 and 16 percent above November 1999. Frozen pork stocks were 2 percent above last month and 7 percent above last year. Stocks of pork bellies increased 88 percent from last month and were 48 percent above November 1999 stocks.

Total frozen poultry supplies were down 18 percent from last month and 3 percent below last year's level. Total stocks of chicken were 1 percent below last month and 5 percent below last year. Total pounds of turkey in freezers decreased 45 percent from last month but were 3 percent above last year.

Public cooler occupancy was at 45 percent of capacity, down 1 points from last year. Public freezer occupancy at 59 percent was down 5 percentage point from last year.
